One thing that affects most of our skins is sunlight. It does not matter if it’s Sumeet or winter or spring; we are exposed to sunlight many times a day.
In summers, the intensity is more so we feel the heat and use sunscreen. But we stop using it when we do not feel the heat.
Let us understand how sunscreen works. Sunscreen helps in filtering out UV radiation. On important thing to know is that UV radiation is present on cloudy days and even on colder days. Technically, reflected UV radiation is also present at night though in meager amounts.
Some people don’t use sunscreen as it leaves a white layer on the skin. But no worries, there are many products available today that have varying levels of sunscreen in them. Today you get several makeup products like foundations, lip tints, lip balms, moisturizers, and setting sprays that have sunscreen as their ingredient.
A lot of skincare products also come with sunscreen as an ingredient.
Quick. Name one skincare product that works immediately upon application, and continues to keep your face looking healthy, wrinkle-free, and youthful for years to come. (But for one head-scratching reason or another, most of us don’t wear it a year-long.)
How to find the right sunscreen?
While looking for a sunscreen, we must keep the following things in mind.
- SPF Or Sun Protection Factor: Every sunscreen has an SPF rating. 15 -30 SPF sunscreens are suitable for daily use. It would be best if you reapplied sunscreen when you are out in the sun for prolonged periods.
- Broad spectrum: While most sunscreens are broad-spectrum, this term means that the cream protects against UVA as well as UVB rays.
- Ingredients: Sunscreens can be physical or chemical. Physical sunscreens use susbtances like zinc oxide and provide and create a physical layer on your skin. Chemical sunscreens typically absorb UV rays from the sun. Of the two, chemical sunscreens may prove to be itchy or even allergic to people with sensitve skin.
- Water resistance: As the name suggests, you should go for water-resistant sunscreens while swimming or even at the beach.
Another great reason to use sunscreen every day is that now you can find sunscreens in powers, gels, and many other cosmetic products you use. Using sunscreen keeps your skin protected and, in some cases, may also help with anti-aging.
